UAW lends helping hand to Detroit’s Feeding the Frontlines

The brave men and women who are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis are getting a little help from a group of dedicated Detroiters who got together to deliver daily meals to these hardworking frontline responders. The UAW has supported the project with a donation of $25,000.

“We are so pleased to be able to support this important effort to help the dedicated workers who are stepping up to save lives and keep our communities running during these difficult days,” said UAW President Rory L. Gamble. “I want to commend the Mayor’s office and all partners involved in this wonderful project.”

Feeding the Frontlines, a partnership between the City of Detroit; Mayor Mike Duggan’s office and Angel’s Share, Inc.; was created this April to provide meals to Detroit police, fire, bus drivers, EMS and healthcare workers during the crisis, and to support Detroit restaurants. The initiative hit a milestone on April 23 with 10,000 meals delivered. All meals are prepared by the more than 200 Detroit restaurants who have signed onto the program. The group is projecting delivery of 20,000 meals by the week of May 9 with an estimated $400,000 invested in local restaurants.

“We need to support our first responders and our struggling restaurants, and Feed the Front Lines Detroit does both of those things,” Mayor Duggan said. “It’s going to take everyone working together in new ways to get through this crisis and I can’t thank all of our partners enough for their commitment to those on the front lines of our COVID-19 response.”
